Final Project: Planning and Prep

Ben Lord:

Ben is a good actor who gained a C in drama in year 10. He is 15 years old and spends a lot of his spare time mountain biking, that is why I feel he would be perfect to play an adventurous exploring teen.

Lee Gratton:

Scott will play the villan in my video, he's a good actor and I know he will do what I tell him to.

Ruddy:

Ruddy will play the villan in my video, he's a good actor and I know he will do what I tell him to. Like ben, Ruddy loves to ride his bikes so he will know how to play an exploring mountain biker very well. He can be serious when its needed and I have filmed with him before so I know he will be easy to work with.

Brain storm

Research into the genre

The Industry

For as long as film has been around so have Thrillers, some of the main directors in the genre are people like Alfred Hitchcock who is the undisputed King of suspense thrillers. Some other big names in the directing of thrillers are John Frankenheimer, Jonathan Demme and Steven Speilberg. Some famous movies these directers have directed are; The Manchurian Candidate, The Silence of the Lambs and Jaws. Here is a list of the top 20 thrillers according to www.toptenreviews.com.

1. Metropolis (1927)
2. Jaws (1975)
3. Rear Window (1954)
4. Chinatown (1974)
5. Psycho (1960)

7. The French connection (1971)

10. Vertigo (1958)

All of these historic top 10 were created before the year 2000.

Metropolis

This film was filmed in 1927 and was a silent science fiction film, my video wont be silent but it will be fiction, I will also use some of the techniques used in the film such as regular close ups and very up beat editing. I will also have various tracking shots which I will use my home made dolly system.

My film will consist of aspects of action and adventure.

Risk assesment.
1 ) Actor becomes injured and needs to be evacuated as quickly as possible, in order to make sure my actors are safe and happy they can leave at any moment i will have planned routes out of the wooded area along paths and roads. I will also make sure everyone has a mobile phone on them in the case that we need to call 999.
2) Camera falls over. In order to stop the camera falling over i will make sure my camera is on a tripod at all times, i will use my heavier tripod which ways enough to ensure nothing could possibly blow / knock it over.
3) When actors are riding their bikes make sure no one is injured, to ensure this
4) Make sure the weather is good when filming, do not risk getting the camera or any other equipment damaged in the rain.
5) Make sure all pathways are clear and leave no obstacles in the way of the actors as they walk/ride down paths.
6) Stay away from trouble, if any strange or dangerous looking characters come along keep the filming equiptment out of sight and try to be as friendly as possible to avoid any trouble.

If I stick to all of these my filming should be smooth and without and problems. If any problems do occur I will write about them in my write up.

Costumes.

My 2 main characters, Ben and Ruddy will be wearing casual clothing, jeans tops / jumpers ect. This will give the feeling that it is an average day in their lifes. I want this because it shows how they dont know what to expect from their outing.

The villian will be dressed in a long coat which hides their identity, the cloak will have a hood which can be worn to keep the identity even more hidden. Goggles will be used to hide the identity as well but they will add a nice effect because its not what you are expecting the villain to be wearing.

Props.

The 2 main characters will be using Bikes. These show how they have traveled quite a way from safety to explore some woods/build trails. They will also be used to generally make the filming more flowy (people keep moving)

Sticks tied together with gardening wire will be used to create make shift graves. These will add an eerie feeling to the film because you know that their isn't going to be a good ending for the 2 main characters.

The costume of Ben will be used towards the end of the piece when Ruddy is searching for him. It will be scattered across the woods and a first person shot will be used to show Ruddys point of view as he graddually goes past helmets, goggles and spades on the floor.
